During Congressional Black Caucus Week, USA Swimming in partnership with Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated's Swim 1922 program visited our campus to discuss the importance of learning how to swim, water safety, and attaining goals for the school year. Afterward, the Olympics held an autograph and picture session as well as passed out Swim 1922 gifts. Cullen Jones is a two-time US Olympian with two gold medals and two silver medals. He is the first African-American male to make the USA swim team as well as a former World Record holder in swimming. Maritza McClendon, a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated, is the first African-American woman to make the USA swim team, Olympic silver medalist, and first African-American to set a world record in swimming.
