We've partnered with Common Threads, a national nonprofit, to fight childhood obesity and empower children to eat healthy, make sustainable behavior changes, and celebrate culture through food.
Our Common Threads partnership kicked off this summer with a 6-week after school Family Cooking Class that reaches beyond children by engaging their families in the art of eating well through hands-on learning in the kitchen. Families learn how to cook healthy and economic meals, enjoy an interactive grocery store tour, and lessons from Cooking For Life Handbook.
We're also working diligently on premiering the Small Bites nutrition and cooking education program taught by MMBDA's own classroom teachers. Small Bites consists of interactive, hands-on lessons that support core content areas with additional extension lessons aligned to Common Core Standards. A total of 8 lessons and recipes will be taught to our 3rd – 8th grade Scholars starting this Fall! Stay tuned for details!
